Cara S. Rivera
Cara co-founded KWF Consulting and KWF Editorial and from the start—more than two decades ago now—has served as the companies’ managing director, working alongside our extraordinary staff to ensure that the organization anticipates and remains responsive to changes in the market and continually meets and exceeds the needs of our esteemed clients. Earlier in her career, Cara held management and executive positions with commercial publishers and editorial positions with a large association. She serves on the Programming Committee for the Society for Scholarly Publishing and has frequently been invited to speak at industry meetings. Cara received a BA in English with high honors from Carleton College and an MBA in marketing and marketing research from DePaul University.

Debbie manages external recruitment projects for KWF Consulting clients. With more than 30 years of experience in the recruiting and staffing industry, Debbie rose to become Senior Vice President with Adecco, the world’s leading provider of human resources solutions, where she was responsible for more than 40 offices and more than 120 employees. Debbie is highly skilled in developing workforce solutions, ensuring a positive end-to-end hiring experience for candidates and hiring managers. Since joining KWF Consulting in 2011, Debbie’s recruiting has focused exclusively on positions in the scholarly publishing marketplace including management positions in editorial, production, and marketing.
Jen leads client financial analysis for complex projects such as multi-journal publishing proposals, new journal development, and contract renewal strategies, in addition to a mix of editorial and other financial projects for KWF clients. Core services provided by Jen include financial spreadsheet development and analysis, constructing P&Ls to illustrate and model multiple scenarios; competitor analyses; and publishing audits. Jen has worked in publishing for 20 years after receiving a BA in English and Liberal Arts from Virginia Tech.
Lisa manages our highly successful academic editor-in-chief recruiting solution. She also undertakes publishing audits, requests for proposals, new product development, editorial analyses/benchmarking, governance best practices, and strategic planning for clients. Also an expert writer and managing editor, Lisa brings to her consulting projects 30 years of experience developing information resources for healthcare professionals across multiple formats and subspecialties. Lisa received a BA in English Literature from Bryn Mawr College.
Market Research and Development
Kevin leads KWF’s market research and development (MRD) team, which provides data and analysis to guide our clients in making decisions about their publishing programs, educational initiatives, and member engagement activities. MRD is also a go-to resource for lead generation, marketing seeding, and other market development initiatives that help grow client sales. Kevin brings a wide breadth of experience in publishing and marketing to the KWF team. He was previously a journal publishing executive with a large commercial publisher, where he focused on new product development and served as publisher for a portfolio of medical journals. He has also worked in health care as an editor, journalist, and communications consultant. He received his BA in English literature from Loyola University in Maryland.
Annette designs, develops, and conducts a wide variety of marketing and research initiatives to create and increase product knowledge and awareness. She also helps convert market prospects into leads and ultimately sales for KWF clients. Annette’s areas of expertise include lead generation and cultivation, market seeding, online product demonstration webinars, in-depth interviews, data mining and analysis, and quantitative and qualitative market research. Prior to joining KWF, Annette worked for many years as a registered nurse and in healthcare documentation. She received her BSN degree from Grand Valley State University in Michigan.
Karen relies on her marketing and market research skills in her current role helping to develop and convert leads through tele-research and telesales. Other areas of expertise include conducting in-depth interviews and data mining to generate new insights for client product development and marketing teams. Karen combines uncommon attention to detail with meticulous follow-up to achieve outcomes that routinely exceed client expectations. She was previously in sales and marketing with a top commercial publisher. Karen received her MS in Applied Behavioral Science from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Concetta helps clients develop and implement strategies that drive success. Her specific areas of focus include: quantitative and qualitative market research, bibliometrics, conducting in-depth interviews that assist in generating prospects/leads for client sales professionals, creation and deployment of surveys, as well as financial analysis. Over the course of her career, Concetta has worked across medical, STEM, social science, and humanities journals and book publishing. As a former Editorial Director at Taylor & Francis/Routledge, she was responsible for the editorial /fiscal management of large (proprietary and society-owned) journal portfolios and for editorial teams across the social sciences and the humanities in the US and UK. Concetta holds an MA in English and Publishing from Rosemont College (Rosemont, PA).
Lisa leads the Business Management team as Operations Manager for the KWF companies: KWF Consulting and KWF Editorial. In this position, she is responsible for talent acquisition, employee on boarding and development, employee payroll, client invoicing, and benefits management. Lisa also manages the contracts and communications with the companies’ service providers: technology, legal, insurance, accounting, payroll, banking, and project management. Lisa joined KWF in 2015 previously working within business administration roles for 15 years. Lisa received a BS in Business Management/Human Resource Management from Towson University.
Isabella supports both KWF Consulting Services and KWF Editorial Services associates. With seven years of administrative experience, Isabella brings critical business and organizational skills to the companies. She assists with client invoicing and employee data management in addition to backing up the Operations Manager. Isabella holds a BS in Business Management from St. John’s University in New York.
Maureen has been providing accounting and bookkeeping services to KWF Consulting and KWF Editorial since 2012. In addition to managing the companies’ general ledger and preparing the companies’ budgets and monthly financial statements, she also provides business strategy support to the companies. Maureen is the President of Bagwell Accounting Services, which provides financial strategy and operational accounting services to businesses in the Baltimore area.
